Our school is situated in the Guang Ming community of Taitung County. Guang Ming Elementary is located near the Sugar Factory, Parliament, Revenue Service Office and other administrative facilities. Nearby schools include: Ma-Lan Elementary School, Kan-Le Elementary School , Feng-Nian Elementary School and Kung Tong Technical Senior High School. Our school is located just off of Zhongxing Road, which makes it a convenient place to visit.
The culture at Guang Ming Elementary is a vibrant one thanks to our student body’s passion for learning. Our students are dedicated to their studies, and work hard both in and out of the classroom. At school, students participate in different sports, art classes, and clubs to enhance their learning experience. The school also has an impressive student-led orchestra that performs at all weekly school-wide assemblies.
In recent years, the amount of students attending our school has increased. This growth is due to the community around Guang Ming developing and increasing in popularity. In 2016, Guang Ming Elementary broke ground on building a new campus, with half of it to be completed by the end of 2016, and the other half in 2017. Students continue to attend school during the construction. This expansion and remodeling will serve to create an even more comfortable and beautiful learning environment for our increasing student population. Our school would like to continue growing and welcoming new students to our productive institution.
The school was founded on August 1st of 1947, as the Private Taiwan Sugar Company Staff’s Children Elementary School. As the name indicates, the school was established as a private school for the children whose parents worked at the Sugar Factory across the road. Luo Gua-An was appointed by the Board of Trustees as the first principal.1948, it was renamed Taitung County Private Taiwan Sugar Primary School. On August 1st, Principal Luo was transferred to serve the sugar factory itself. The director of academic affairs, Luo Yi, was promoted to be the principal. In the spring of 1949 it was renamed Taitung County Township Sugar National School.
In the summer of 1968 the Sugar Factory handed our school over to the Taitung County government, and Guang Ming Elementary became a public school. The government decided at this transition that Guang Ming Village would be the school district supplying students for our school.Our school continues to provide the 1st to 6th grade students of Guang Ming Village with a high-quality educational experience.
